Legend of the Dash Blank Greeting Card

$4.99

Built in Freeport at Porters Landing in 1809 the Dash was constructed for speed. It was commissioned a privateer ship in 1812 and distinguished itself by repeated victorious encounters with enemy ships. After completing 15 successful voyages the Dash would meet its fate. One cold day in late January of 1815 the Dash and one of its sister ships the Chamberlain, set sail out of Portland encountering a gale after two days at sea. The Chamberlain changed course but the Dash pushed on into the storm never to be seen again. Legend has it that whenever a family member of the sixty lost crewmen died, the Dash would return from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean to call the loved one on board for the final journey.
