Aroostook County also referred to as the crown of Maine is the largest county east of the Mississippi. In fact it covers an area greater than the combined size of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Aroostook comes from the Mi’Kmaq word meaning “beautiful river” and now all Mainers refer to it as “The County”.

In the 1940s Aroostook was top in the nation for potato production. Communities spread out all over The County participated in the annual yearly potato recess, or harvest break. Starting in September schools shut down and adults took vacation time from their jobs. Sun up to sun down everyone joined in the the massive harvest.

During the peak time of picking season two events are always sure to occur: The autumn equinox and the rise of the mighty harvest moon. The brightest moon of the year can often rise at the same time as the sun sets illuminating the fields and allowing farmers to harvest crops well into the cool evenings. Fall in The County is a special time of year. It signifies the opportunity to gather and express gratitude over the bountiful harvest, and to reflect under the moon on the changing season in the balance of equal daylight and darkness.

CARE: Wash in cold/warm water. Dry low/medium heat (some standard shrinkage of the garments may occur when using a dryer, we recommend hanging to dry)
